Is the sandstone dry enough to climb? A red, amber or green answer for every Southern Sandstone crag.

We built High & Dry for our local climbing community. Sandstone is soft and breaks easily when it's wet, so a clear answer helps protect the rock and saves people a wasted trip. The first version was knocked together over a bowl of cornflakes one Saturday morning.

Behind each answer is a simple model that looks at recent rain, drying weather, soil moisture and how slowly each crag tends to dry out.

What it took to ship

Drying factors for every crag, based on what local climbers know about which way each one faces and where it seeps. A six-day outlook. And a web app you can add to your home screen that works offline.

High & Dry on iPhone: borderline, climb with care. Bowles Rocks has been dry for two days but drying has stalled, with a six-day outlook below
